Julio Viera was born on July 8, 1934 in Las Palmas de Gran Canarias, in the neighborhood of San Cristóbal. Since he was a child he feels a strong attraction for drawing, for which he uses any element he has at hand to make them (squid ink, spices, chalk, ... etc). At 17, he already wants to be a genius and compares himself to Picasso, Dalí and Miro. In 1957, when he was only 23 years old, he began a transcendental journey in his life that would mark his artistic career; he goes to Belgium, to work in the coal mines. The following year he participated in the Universal Exhibition in Brussels (1958). The following year he traveled to Rome, where he learned about Renaissance painting by studying the strokes of the great artists of the quattrocento and cinquecento; Bellini, Botticeli, Da Vinci, Miguel Angel, Raphael and Titian. On his journey, he arrives in Madrid, where he learns about the painting of Velázquez, El Greco (who will leave a mark on his work) and Bosch, among others. At last he arrives in Paris, where he will reside for a decade. Neighbor of André Breton, he will become a peculiar character of Montmartre and it will be justifiably, due to his eccentricities and artistic manifestations that already go beyond painting and moves in the field of music and literature, at this time he will meet Picasso and he will establish a good friendship with the veteran Salvador Dalí. In 1968, upset by the student movement in May, he left Paris and continued to travel around the world; Berlin, California, Moscow and Mexico, among other countries. In the latter, he contacts and befriends his admired actor Mario Cantinflas. Again, in search of a place to settle, he arrives in Mallorca, where he will establish his residence while he alternates his quiet life on the island with his trips to Rome, where he will deliver his works 'El Cristo Negro' and The Christ of the Atlantic' to Pope Paul VI at the Vatican; and to Madrid, where he published 'The quixotic madness of calling me El Genialísimo' with which he coins the eccentric term with which he defines himself.
