The inhabitants of Emerita Augusta, one of the most important Roman villas in Iberia, were regular visitors to the Alange thermal baths, famous for the relaxing properties of their Mineral-Medicinal Waters, especially indicated for the treatment of ailments related to the nervous system. In the 3rd century, the praetor Licinius Serenus had thermal baths and auxiliary rooms built in the area of the Alange spring, after noticing the notable improvement experienced by his daughter Varinia Serena in her neurological problems after taking the waters of Alange.
