Description: An impressive and good sized copper engraved view of the Utrecht Gate, Amsterdam, Interesting foreground detail of daily life in the city. A crisp, dark impression enhanced with later hand colouring which has been delicately and tastefully applied. Published by Wolfgang, Waasberge, Boom, Van Someren en Goethall, Amsterdam 1693 in "BESCHRYVINGE VAN AMSTERDAM, Desselfs oorspronk uyt den Huyse der Heeren van Aemstel en Aemstellan..." by Caspar Commelijn o Caspar Commelin (Ámsterdam, 14 de octubre de 1668 - ibíd., 25 de diciembre de 1731) Caspar Commelin (1636 - 1693) was a well known printer, bookseller and publisher in late 17th century Amsterdam. He was also a noted historian of his native city and is best known today for his beautifully illustrated Beschryvinge van Amsterdam or Description of Amsterdam. Most of the fine copper engraved views are by Petrus Schenk and are characterised by the inclusion of busy street and waterway scenes around the grand buildings of the city.
