Reverend Francis Orpen Morris (25 March 1810 – 10 February 1893) was an Irish clergyman, ornithologist and entomologist. He was a pioneer of the movement to protect birds. He co-founded the Plumage League in 1855, a campaign against the excessive use of birds' feathers and plumage in fashion.
Morris authored 'The History of British Birds', his first best seller, in 1850. The beautifully hand-colored woodcut engravings were illustrated by Alexander Francis Lydon (1836–1917). B. Fawcett printed and funded their works, as well as work by other natural history artists. Groombridge & Sons, of London published this and many more of Morris and Lydon’s works.
