18th century colored optical view. Original engraving from the French school.

Optical views were very fashionable in the 18th century. They are engravings, mainly on copper plates, made to be viewed through an optical box (with inversion of the text and the image), which consisted of an inclined mirror and a large lens, in order to see the prints.

Medium/Technique: Original copperplate engraving on laid paper, hand-illuminated at the time with watercolors.

Published by: Lachaussée, Daumont & Basset in Paris circa 1770.
