Description: Copy of "The Bagnio" (after the painting in the National Gallery); a bedroom in a brothel where the earl falls dying after being struck with a sword by Silvertongue whom he has surprised with the countess; the lawyer escapes through the window to right as watchmen enter to left; the floor is strewn with clothing including a hooped petticoat, masks, the countess's shoes and her stays. Inscription content: Lettered below image with title, followed by 'Death of the Earl.' and 'From the Original Picture by Hogarth.', and production details: 'Engraved by T. E. Nicholson. / Jones & Co. Temple of the Muses, Finsbury Square, London. Provenance: illustration to 'The Complete Works of William Hogarth' by John Trusler. Production date:1833. Condition: good.
