Condition: in good condition. There is some smudging or imperfections mostly to the margins and from handling. The upper right corner is teared Roger Williams was a Puritan who founded the the Providence Plantations in Rhode Island in the 1636. He is well noted for his belief in freedom of religion and his amicable attitude towards the Native Americans. In this engraving he is seen being rescued by the Narragansett Indians. Williams had arrived in American in 1631 and preached around Massachusetts, but in 1634, under threat of deportation, fled the state. He befriend the Narragansett Indians in the region of modern day Rhode Island and would eventually purchase the land he needed from them to found the Providence Plantations.
