Technique: Etching and aquatint. Plate etching year: 1878 - 1888. Stamping date: unkown. Size: 35x40 cms. With passepartout, glass and frame. Condition: good. José María Galván, painter and one of the most active engravers in the recovery of the etching technique as a suitable system for the interpretation of painting, thar studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando. His work was mainly based on the work of Francisco de Goya, a reason that is reflected in large institutions such as the Museo Nacional del Prado or The Royal Academy of San Fernando, more specifically in the collections of the National Chalcography where numerous specimens of this caliber are found. Throughout his life he obtained abundant honorable mentions, such as at the National Exhibition of Fine Arts in 1864, and third, second and first class medals for his brilliant works as an engraver. In addition to all this, he worked as an illustrator in different newspapers such as El Arte in Spain, and in different seminars.
