Hans Holbein the Younger (der Jüngere) (Augsburg, Holy Roman Empire, 1497?1-London, between October 7 and November 29, 1543) was a German painter, engraver and printer who falls within the style called Nordic Revival. He is best known as one of the 16th-century masters of portraiture. He also produced religious art, satire, and reformist propaganda, and made a significant contribution to the history of book design. He designed woodcuts, stained glass windows and pieces of jewelry. He is called "the Younger" to differentiate him from his father, Hans Holbein the Elder, a gifted painter of the late Gothic school.
