Seville
Antique prints of Seville
Forty-one antique prints of Seville and its province, dated between 1707 and 1770. Almost all are copper engravings published by Pieter van der Aa in Leiden: a general view of the city, the cathedral and Giralda, and small towns rarely found in print, such as Marchena, Los Palacios and San Juan de Aznalfarache. Nineteenth-century lithographs by Parcerisa, including the courtyard of the Alcázar, complete the group.
As the port of the Indies trade, Seville appeared in European city atlases from the sixteenth century onwards, and Van der Aa's views belong to that tradition.
All pieces are original unless stated otherwise, with technical details and measurements.
