Antique prints of London
Our antique prints of London number more than 160 pieces, from the 1740s to the twentieth century. Copper engravings by Benjamin Cole, W. Watkins and J. Pass, views of the Georgian city by John Thomas Smith and Victorian steel engravings by T. H. Shepherd record the capital street by street.
Subjects include the Guildhall, Lambeth Palace, Westminster Abbey, Scotland Yard as it stood in 1776 and the remains of the Roman wall at Cripplegate and Jewry Street. Many of these buildings were later altered or demolished, which gives the prints a documentary value beyond their charm.
All pieces are period originals unless stated otherwise, with a technical description and measurements.
