Czechia and Slovakia
Antique prints of Czechia and Slovakia
Our antique prints of Czechia and Slovakia date from 1842 to 1845. Prague and the Charles Bridge appear in a hand-coloured steel engraving by Albert Henry Payne; the castle of Devín (Theben) above the Danube near Bratislava is engraved after W. H. Bartlett by J. C. Armytage; and a wood engraving by J. Fagnion shows Orava castle above the river Váh.
Bartlett's Danube views and Payne's series published in Germany were the main sources of images of Bohemia and Upper Hungary for nineteenth-century readers.
All pieces are period originals unless stated otherwise, with a technical description and measurements.
