The engraving comes with a printed sheet identifying it as "Plate I. L'Amour frivole. By J. F. Beauvarlet. After Boucher". Beauvarlet (1731-1797), engraver to the king, was one of the most sought-after interpreters of French gallant painting. Wide margins and a well-defined plate mark.
