Etching of Abraham dismissing Hagar and Ishmael, after the composition Rembrandt etched in 1637 (Bartsch 30). A later impression, probably of the 18th century, on very thin paper, with the signature "Rembrandt" at the upper right of the image and the plate mark clearly visible.
The scene, from Genesis, shows Abraham on the threshold of his house taking leave of Hagar, who dries her tears, while the young Ishmael looks out at the viewer with his satchel on his shoulder. It is one of Rembrandt's most copied and most reprinted biblical subjects since the 18th century.
