The monument, carved in marble by the Renaissance sculptor Giovanni da Nola between 1522 and 1525 and brought from Naples, where the deceased had been viceroy, is one of the masterpieces of the Italian Renaissance preserved in Spain; the lithograph reproduces it complete, with the recumbent figure on the sarcophagus and the crowning group of the Virgin among angels.
