Le Nôtre laid out this grove about 1680; the water fell down the cascade during the balls. The print belongs to the series of views of royal residences that Pierre Aveline the Elder engraved under the ten-year royal privilege obtained in 1685. Signed at the foot: fait par Aveline avec Privilege du Roy.

Condition: Laid down on another sheet at an early date, with short margins. There is a restoration to the left side and the lower left corner, visible in the photograph, which slightly affects the image. Light rust spots and occasional toning; clean plate mark and crisp impression elsewhere.
