Original engraving with the general view of the Crystal Palace raised in Hyde Park for the Great Exhibition of 1851 in London, the ground busy with strollers. Engraved on steel by J. C. Armytage and published in London by James S. Virtue.

The iron and glass building designed by Joseph Paxton was taken down in 1852 and re-erected, enlarged, at Sydenham, where it burned in 1936. Views of the whole in its original Hyde Park setting therefore record a building that stood there only a year and a half.

Source: London, James S. Virtue.
