Original engraving of the Great Pond of the Buen Retiro in Madrid, titled in the plate "Le Grand Étang du BUEN-RETIRO". Galleys and sailing ships ply the water among the spired pavilions around the pond, with groves and the sierra beyond, while many strollers enliven the promenade in the foreground. It is a very early image of the Retiro pond, setting of the court's mock naval battles and festivities.
