Original 18th-century engraving of a coastal fishing scene: a woman works a dip net over the gunwale while a fisherman holds the boat at the oars, with a watchtower and a bridge beyond. The letters A, B, C and D refer to the explanation in the text.
It comes from the "Diccionario histórico de los artes de la pesca nacional" by Antonio Sáñez Reguart, published in Madrid between 1791 and 1795, the standard work on Spanish fishing gear of the Ancien Régime and much prized for its copper engravings. The lettering places it: "Dicc. Tom. III. Pag. 156. Lam. XVI".
