Goya etched the coppers between 1810 and 1815, but the series was not published until 1863, thirty-five years after his death, by the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando. That first edition was printed in two sessions; from the crispness the lettering retains, this impression probably belongs to the first, as Thomas Harris describes in his catalog.
